Learning To Sail
At the moment Fisherrow Yacht Club does not currently run courses that follow the RYA Training scheme. We do have members that are keen to pass on their experience and help any member that asks.
Who are the RYA and what is a RYA training centre?
The Royal Yachting Association(RYA) is the national governing body for Sailing, Powerboating and Windsurfing. It works to promote the sport and runs training schemes for these sports.
There is division of the RYA specifically for Scotland. Its website can be found here. They are a really friendly and helpful group of people.
A RYA training centre is either a club or centre that has been approved by the RYA to run these training schemes.
We are currently working towards meeting the criteria to become a training centre.
What are the training schemes for Sailing?
There are two schemes, a junior scheme and an adult scheme.
Details of these can be found here.
So you want to learn to sail, where do you go?
The most local centre is Port Edgar Sailing School at Port Edgar Marina, South Queensferry, it is owned and run by Edinburgh Leisure. The centre principle Oli Ludlow and his team are always on hand to point you in the direction of the best course.
Many Fisherrow members have completed courses here, from beginner to instructor.
